Surface preparation is the key
Every successful garage floor coating starts with proper concrete preparation.
Poor surface preparation is the most common cause of coating failure. That's why we diamond grind, repair and thoroughly vacuum the concrete before coating.

Diamond grind
Remove contamination and weak surface material while creating a mechanical profile for adhesion.

Repair
Cracks, joints and spalls are repaired, commonly with fast-cure low-viscosity polyurea repair resin.

Grind repairs flush
Repairs are mechanically ground smooth rather than left proud of the slab.

Vacuum thoroughly
Dust is removed from the surface and open concrete pores before resin is applied.

Moisture barrier if required
An epoxy moisture barrier can be incorporated where slab moisture risk requires it.

Questions to answer before you choose a garage floor.
These are the practical questions that usually affect system choice, price and installation time.
How much does a garage floor coating cost in Auckland?
Indicative coating prices start from about $40/m² + GST for Tuff Floor epoxy, $55/m² + GST for Sparta-Guard and $85/m² + GST for Sparta-Flake. Standard preparation is typically from $20/m² + GST. Polished concrete and grind & seal start from about $70/m² + GST. Floor condition, repairs, moisture treatment and job size affect the final quote, and small jobs carry a minimum charge.
How long does a garage floor installation take?
It depends on the system and the slab. Fast-curing polyaspartic systems can be completed quickly on suitable floors, while moisture barriers, extensive repairs, coating removal, epoxy builds and polished concrete can add time.
When can I walk or drive on the new floor?
With our Sparta-Guard and Sparta-Flake polyaspartic systems, light foot traffic is normally okay after around four hours. Vehicle traffic is typically around 24 hours after completion, depending on temperature and site conditions. Epoxy and polished systems may require longer, so we confirm the return-to-service time for each job.
Will hot tyres damage the coating?
A properly prepared and specified polyaspartic garage floor is designed to resist hot-tyre pickup. Epoxy performance varies with system build, preparation and topcoat.
What if my garage concrete is damp?
Where slab conditions indicate moisture risk, an epoxy moisture barrier can be incorporated before the decorative or performance coating. Moisture treatment normally adds time and cost to the installation.
Can you coat over old paint or epoxy?
We do not rely on weak or poorly bonded old coatings. Existing paint, epoxy, glue or contamination is assessed and mechanically removed where required before the new system is installed.
Can cracks and damaged concrete be repaired first?
Yes. Cracks, joints and spalls can be repaired as part of preparation, commonly using fast-cure low-viscosity polyurea repair resin before the repair is ground flush.
Is a coated garage floor slippery when wet?
Any smooth floor can become slippery when wet. Slip-reduction aggregate can be incorporated into suitable topcoats, with the amount selected to balance grip, appearance and ease of cleaning.
Epoxy or polyaspartic — which should I choose?
Polyaspartic is particularly strong for fast cure, UV stability and abrasion resistance. Epoxy offers economical options and can be built much thicker for high-build or self-level systems. The right choice depends on the floor and how the garage will be used.
Can you level an uneven garage floor or ramp an entrance?
Yes. Additional preparation can include floor levelling, local hump removal, low-spot repairs and ramping at entrances or transitions before the finished flooring system is installed.
